How Jewelry Connects Generations

As the leaves turn and families gather around the table, November always brings a sense of reflection. It’s a time for gratitude, tradition, and connection – and at Steve Pronko Jewelers, we’re reminded daily that jewelry has a special way of capturing all three.
Every piece of jewelry tells a story. Some stories start with a “yes” in front of a sparkling ring. Others begin decades earlier, in another time and place, when a loved one first wore the piece that now sits in your jewelry box. For nearly a century, our family has been helping the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania keep those stories alive – restoring heirlooms, redesigning vintage treasures, and creating new pieces that will carry memories forward for generations to come.
A Family Legacy in Every Facet
When someone brings in a family piece – maybe a grandmother’s engagement ring or a father’s old pocket watch – we know it’s more than metal and stone. It’s a piece of history. It’s birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and milestones all wrapped into one small symbol that’s stood the test of time.
One of our favorite parts of this job is seeing how a single heirloom can bridge generations. We’ve had customers who’ve brought in their grandparents’ rings to be resized or redesigned for their own engagements. Others have asked us to restore a vintage necklace so it could be gifted to a daughter on her wedding day. Every time, there’s this quiet, emotional moment when the finished piece is placed in their hands – and you can almost see the memories sparkle.
Restoration with Heart
Jewelry restoration is both art and care. Our team treats every heirloom with the same respect we’d give to our own family’s treasures. Whether it’s a delicate chain repair, replacing a missing stone, or completely rebuilding a ring setting, our goal is always the same: to preserve what makes the piece special while ensuring it’s strong enough to last another lifetime.
We use modern tools and techniques, but our approach is rooted in old-fashioned craftsmanship – the same kind of work that started right here in Dickson City in 1928, when Steve Pronko first opened his watchmaking shop.
From Past to Present – and Beyond
Jewelry connects us – to our families, to our memories, and to each other. It’s a physical reminder of where we’ve come from and what we cherish most. This time of year, as we reflect on the people who make our lives meaningful, we’re especially thankful for the opportunity to help our community keep those connections shining bright.
If you have a family piece tucked away that could use some love, or if you’d like to redesign an heirloom into something new, we’d be honored to be part of that process. Bring it in to our Dickson City showroom, and let’s keep its story going – one sparkle at a time.
Thank you for letting us be part of your stories for nearly 100 years.
From our family to yours, we wish you a season filled with warmth, gratitude, and memories that shine as brightly as your favorite piece of jewelry.
